ECHO - Connecting the Children's Heart Community

Heart Community Events

Co-ordinating heart community events

Throughout the year we arrange a wide variety of events for heart children, their parents and siblings. These events help to reduce isolation, improve local support networks and enable families to meet others in a similar situation.

Treatment and care can feel very different when families leave the specialist surgical centre and need help locally. Families gain support from talking to and connecting with people who have experienced a similar journey to them. In addition to our own events, we also encourage our volunteer community contacts to arrange small local gatherings for groups of parents and children.

Parents frequently tell us how much they value ECHO events and consider them a key part of the service we provide to support heart families.

We need volunteers to help organise and run our events. If you’re interested in helping, please get in touch to find out more.

Community events

This year we’re hosting events in a number of locations across London and the surrounding counties, to bring together families of children with heart conditions, enabling people to form friendships and access support.

Transition Days for Teenagers

Working in partnership with Evelina London Children’s Hospital we host information days for young people who are about to transition to adult services. We give them the opportunity to ask questions and to find out how things will change as they move towards more independent cardiac care.

Siblings Days

We provide events specifically for siblings of children with heart conditions, enabling them to interact with others in a similar situation, form friendships and access support. We also organise arts & crafts days for siblings of children currently staying at Evelina London Children’s Hospital during school holidays.

Christmas Party

With over 400 people attending, the ECHO Christmas Party is now legendary in the ECHO community! Hosted at Millwall Football Club, we throw a huge party every year for children with heart conditions and their families, providing entertainment, games, rides and activities, but most importantly an opportunity for heart families to get together and enjoy themselves in a safe, supported environment. For many people this will be the only Christmas party outside the home they’re able to attend.

Christmas Party at Evelina London Children’s Hospital

We also host an annual Christmas party for children and their families staying at Evelina London Children’s Hospital. Working closely with Evelina London’s play specialists we aim to bring Christmas cheer to the hospital. Last year we had a magic show, superhero photo booth, themed arts & crafts and a tea party.
