Finding travel insurance to cover your child’s specific condition can be tricky and time consuming. In an effort to make things a little easier, we’ve drawn up a list of insurance companies that provide cover for pre-existing conditions. Some of these have been contacted directly for information by ECHO whilst others have been used by parents in the past to travel with their heart children.
Unfortunately, ECHO cannot guarantee that these companies will be able to offer you cover, as each policy is determined on an individual basis. However, we recommend speaking to other heart parents about their experiences and recommendations which can be really insightful.
Before calling an insurance company please make sure you have the following information to hand:
Pre-existing conditions would need to be assessed with most insurers:
Get healthcare cover abroad with UK GHIC or UK EHIC
The UK Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) lets you get necessary state healthcare in some European Economic Area (EEA), and some countries, on the same basis as a resident of that country. This may be free or it may require a payment equivalent to that which a local resident would pay. For further information: Global Health Insurance Card
If you have recommendations for insurance please do share this information by contacting the ECHO office.
Once you have arranged your insurance remember to print it and take it with you.
