It can be really beneficial for parents and other family members of children receiving care at the Evelina to be able to take some time away from the hospital. ECHO has two dedicated spaces for families when they need a moment to reflect, both of which are just a short walk from the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.
Family Resource Room
The Family Resource Room in the ECHO office has been created to offer a calming space for heart families. The room is comfortable and cosy, fitted with soft furnishings for you to relax in. A computer is available should you need one, and we are happy to offer free tea or coffee.
If you would like to spend time in the room, please speak to your Ward Nurse or phone the ECHO office directly at 020 7998 4710. By letting us know about your visit in advance we can ensure the room is available for you when you need it.
If you need a moment to yourself, it is worth visiting ECHO’s Reflection Bench located in the peaceful and quiet Lambeth Palace Gardens. Just two minutes walk from the Evelina, it is perfect for when you need to get away from the hospital to reflect or clear your head, or just to get some fresh air.
Our Reflection Bench is also often a focal point at our annual remembrance gatherings for bereaved parents and families, and we encourage families who have lost a loved one to visit the bench whenever they wish to.
To get to the bench, head southward on Lambeth Palace Road as you exit the Evelina. The Garden Museum will be on your left, before Lambeth Bridge. You can access the Gardens free of charge through the Garden Museum entrance. Alternatively, you can access them through the light and spacious museum cafe, which not only offers a beautiful view of the Gardens, but also a relaxing place from which to appreciate the solitude and calming nature of the Gardens regardless of the weather.
