Save the date for the launch of 'The Lodge'

On Monday 10th August, ECHO are thrilled to launch a new dedicated Psychology Room and Play Space called 'The Lodge' at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital.

ECHO have worked tirelessly together with the hospital’s Cardiac Psychology team and Play Specialists to provide a comfortable and relaxing room for children and young people with congenital heart disease and their parents.

The Lodge-themed room on the Evelina London's Arctic level will be used by the Cardiac Psychology team to facilitate support services for cardiac children and their families, and by the Play Specialist team to hold play sessions for children during their hospital stay.

The genorosity of people like you means that ECHO have been able to fully refurbish, furnish and decorate the room fit for purpose - and soon it will be open and used by hundreds of families in times of need.

Join us on Facebook and YouTube on Monday 10th August at 7pm for the official launch.

You will get to see the brand new look of the room for the very first time, and hear from ECHO's Chief Executive and hospital staff Nikki and Clare about how the room will be used and why it is so important to their teams.

Stay tuned on our social media!

In the next online ECHO Coffee Connection on Wednesday 12th August from 2.30-4pm, our partners at King’s College London university are keen to hear from ECHO members on how to upskill young people to talk about their heart conditions through working with scientists.

For this special session, we especially welcome parents to please join us for discussions and help shape this vital work through your invaluable insights.

There is limited space available for this online session, so please register your interest and you will be contacted with confirmation and a link to join on the day. RSVP by Monday 10th August.

77 ECHO families unite for #1in100 music video

77 ECHO members from across the country, all supported by ECHO and treated by the Evelina London Cardiac Team, are featured in the #1in100 music video appeal to raise awareness and vital funding to help other children with heart conditions.

The children in this video have required lifesaving heart surgery or treatment throughout their lives, and have often needed to be away from home for extended periods of time, adding pressures to the lives of those supporting them. Together, the families aim to raise £10,000 as well as promote awareness of CHD and the journey families take.

The beautiful song - I Am Home by Byron and the Stratford East Singers - encapsulates the feelings many family members have when their child is in a vulnerable situation, and the title reminds us of the second family ECHO becomes to many families at times of unimaginable stress and worry.

We are delighted that Caroline wanted to bring so many people together with this project and that Byron has chosen to support the ECHO heart community through his lyrics.

We would love for you to watch, share and donate if you can. Anything you are able to give will go to help cardiac families like those who took part in the videos - thank you.

Can you share your experiences to help research into the social and emotional needs of children with CHD?

ECHO volunteer Chris - as part of his Masters in Special Educational Needs and Additional Needs at the University of East London - is looking for parents of children with congenital heart disease to take part in his research.

Chris' research aims to gain a more comprehensive understanding of parents’ views on the experiences and subsequent social and emotional needs of children with congenital heart disease. Chris is an adult with congenital heart disease and has supported ECHO as a volunteer for 10 years.

This important research could help to initiate change in schools in terms of the way that the social and emotional needs of children with congenital heart disease are met. All of the findings will be shared with the ECHO community once the research has been completed.

We hope you can take part!

Speak soon,

Team ECHO
