Important update regarding staff changes at the Evelina London Children's Hospital

Message from Dr Aaron Bell, Head of Service, Consultant Paediatric Cardiology:

After 10  productive years at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital Thomas Krasemann is leaving us to take up a position in Rotterdam. He will be leading the cardiac catheter lab and developing their service, as well as it being closer to home. Although we will miss him we wish him all the very best for his future career.

We are fortunate to be in a position where we have plenty of senior staff to be able to continue to cover and ensure that the cardiac catheter lists, and importantly Dr Krasemann’s clinics at the Evelina, Ashford, Canterbury and Margate, continue to run smoothly.

For the short term Professor Eric Rosenthal and Professor Shak Qureshi are ensuring that all of the cardiac catheters are going ahead. Dr Trisha Vigneswaran has been appointed as a locum consultant and will take over Dr Krasemann’s Evelina clinic. Dr Krasemann also ran a specialist Kawasaki disease clinic and this will be taken on by Dr Owen Miller. The clinics in Ashford, Canterbury and Margate will be attended by a combination of Dr Vigneswaran and some of the other established consultants here at the Evelina.

This is clearly a time of a lot of change for us so we are planning for the future. Over the coming months we will be expanding the team by appointing a number of permanent consultants. We  are looking for cardiologists who will fit in with the team and will provide the care for your children at the high standard we expect. I believe it is essential we get the right people, but this  does take a bit of time, so I hope you will allow us this to make sure we get it right. I will be keeping you updated as we go with the appointments our new staff.

In the meantime though it is business as usual, we will ensure your children are seen as planned and I can assure you that your children will continue to get excellent care and remain part of the Evelina family.

Message from Dr Thomas Krasemann FRCP:

You may have heard rumours that I will be leaving the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, and the rumours are true. I will take up a new job in Rotterdam by mid-October which is a very exciting opportunity for me. I have had a wonderful time here, what I have enjoyed most is working with and for my patients and their families, either in the cathlab or in outpatient clinics.

Over the years I have had the luck to see many of my patients growing up, developing their personalities, enjoying life. This is the best feedback I can get as a doctor – to see that I was able to contribute a little to this development.

To be trusted by you and your families was and is a gift for which I am grateful. I will hand over my patients – you – to my colleagues, whom I trust to continue your medical care in high quality. Please honour them with the same trust you have shown me.

Unfortunately I will not be able to say bye bye to each individual patient and their families, so once again, thank you for the good times with you all. I am wishing you all the best.

Sincerely yours,

Dr Thomas Krasemann FRCP
