Hello from Team ECHO!

Evelina London services rated 'Outstanding' and 'Good' by the Care Quality Commission

We are delighted to announce that the Evelina London Children's Hospital has achieved an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) with children’s community services rated ‘Good’.

In its report published on Thursday 24 March, the CQC praises hospital staff who its inspectors found to be ‘motivated and compassionate.’ Inspectors also reported that patients using community services were ‘treated with dignity and respect’.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital is the only children’s hospital in England to have been rated as ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC to date.

We congratulate all staff at the Evelina London Children's Hospital for this fantastic result and thank all ECHO members who assisted with this process.

Superhero of the month ...

Our Superhero of the month is ECHO Teen Club Member Cecilia Adamou.

Cecilia writes a blog about her experiences as a young heart patient, and an article that Cecilia wrote initially for a U.K. based newspaper was recently picked up by a newspaper in India!

ECHO would like to thank Cecilia for all her inspirational writing and encouragement to many across the heart community and beyond!!

Be a Superhero for Heart Heroes!

Take up a challenge for Children's Heart Week this May and sign up for the ECHO Superhero Fun Run. Hundreds of Superhero runners will be descending on Regent's Park -  the perfect place for our family picnic afterwards.

Story of Superhero fundraiser Stephane Wright in the news!

On Sat 26th March heart dad Stephane Wright organised his 4th major fundraising event for ECHO - a BMXLife Bunny Hop through London. In just over a year Stephane has raised over £40,000 for ECHO, following his son Tommy's stay at the Evelina in Oct 2014.

Stephane was interviewed on ITV London News, BBC Radio Surrey/Sussex, and the story was included in London's Metro Newspaper and RideUK BMX magazine.

We give a huge THANK YOU to Stephane and his family and all of the BMXLife team for their ongoing support and for raising such a huge amount of money AND awareness for ECHO.

New Event - Bereavement Support Workshops

On Saturday 9th April 2016 our first support workshop for bereaved families is taking place. The session will be friendly and informal, and is designed to provide families with an opportunity to speak to other cardiac families who have shared a similar experience.

Losing a son or daughter at any age is one of the most heart-breaking events a parent can ever face. Whether this has happened to you recently or some time ago we invite you to join us.

The session is taking place in central London between 11am-1pm. Workshops will be small, confidential and facilitated by a bereavement counsellor, Debbie Howe, and some of the ECHO team.

These sessions are informal and there is no obligation to attend all six sessions if you feel you are unable to do so - please feel free to book as many sessions as you like.

If you would like to attend, or have a question about the event, please email Samantha Johnson to let her know: samantha@echo-evelina.org.uk

Finally, watch this space for information about the ECHO Summer Family Day  - which will be held on Sunday 26th June 2016.
